My parents, Steve and Barbara, arrived this week for a visit from Virginia, USA.
Our first hike was to Fajã de Lopo Vaz, seen here from the trail head.
Upon reaching the ocean, 1200 meters from the trail head, you stumble into a tropical microclimate planted with bananas and pineapples.

We are home and savoring all of our wonderful memories! What a high, in so many ways. I never thought I would be 'tacking' up a mountainside, a real challenge but invigorating and so worth it once at the top!! We enjoyed dinners a la candlelight in Casa Johnson's prepared by the amazing Konswan, her culinary talents are extraordinary and we got to enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables of their hard labor -- literally!
