Bookshelf Made from Cryptomeria in our Backyard

Using our new toy to create lumber from all the trees we have felled in the last few years.
We bought a portable sawmill from the Swedish Logosol Company.
Using a chainsaw to power it, Magnus is able to create boards of all sizes in our own backyard.

After making the lumber, the fun of carpentry begins.

Using a portable generator and a handheld grinder, Magnus lets the inspiration flow and plays in the swirling patterns inside the wood.

Spring Chickens

New technology is great. These little machines till the soil, eat insects and weeds, and return manure to the soil. After three weeks in this garden, the soil will be perfect for planting tomatoes.

After three years of experimenting with goats, sheep, ducks, turkeys and chickens...we have discovered that chickens are the best meat source for our lifestyle.

This year we ordered 40 chicks that are bred to grow fast and stay stupid! Ideal for our fruit farm we hope.

Our egg laying hens are doing excellent, and reproducing regularly.

Konswan built a new chicken pen to replace the one destroyed by a stray Acacia tree last year.

The new pen is large enough to allow the chickens to free range, but keeps them out of our veggies.

One Widow Maker Down

Magnus finally had the chance to put the new Stihl MS660 to another good use.
This saw cuts through hardwoods like a hot knife in butter! Simply amazing.

The 'Widow Maker' created last summer is finally cut up into manageable size pieces.

Climbing up a 3 meter ladder to make the first cuts was a bit tricky, especially with a chainsaw in hand, but that is what the much smaller MS180 is good for.

We would have loved to hire a professional for this job, but alas our little island lacks skilled lumberjacks!

Fruit Trees Breaking Dormancy

We planted these four trees our first year on Flores.

Typically it takes 3 years before the first fruits come, we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Every year we top dress with a sack of horse manure and train them.

Our apple trees, pruned and trained correctly we hope.
Our lemon tree.
